5 Stars Entire concert!
This is a beautiful looking Blu-ray and the sound is amazing. This is a must have even if you have the dvd version. This is only the concert but it is the entire concert. No extras. R30 on Blu-Ray features, for the first time ever, Rush’s entire sold out concert in Frankfurt, Germany from their 2004 - 30th Anniversary Tour. With the entire concert being on this Blu-Ray, this means that 8 tracks that were not on the original DVD, are here for you to enjoy. This concert was shot in High Definition, 16:9 Widescreen, PCM Stereo, and Dolby Digital 5.1. BONUS TRACKS THAT WERE NOT ON THE ORIGINAL DVD:
1.Bravado
2.YYZ
3.The Trees
4.One Little Victory
5.Secret Touch
6.Red Sector A
7.La Villa Strangiato
8.By-Tor and the Snow Dog
5 Stars Much better than the Snakes & Arrows Blu-ray…
… because, unlike the Snakes & Arrows Blu-ray, the video and audio on the R30 Blu-ray are perfectly in-sync. The setlist is better too, IMO. R30 is probably my favorite Blu-ray right now, and is a must have for Rush fans, especially since it includes the entire concert (the previously released DVD is shortened by several songs… see other reviews below).
4 Stars Disappointed, BD missing all the extras that come on the DVD version…(???)
I’m really disappointed, it is true that the BD version has 7 extra tracks from the same concert that were previously unreleased, but was a trade off for the rest of the bonus vintage material and the interviews included on the DVD package.
I got the BD thinking I will get all the bell a whistles at least of the standard DVD package, the funny thing is that it was even stated on the sticker outside of the package (and thanks God I have the DVD collector edition with the extra DVD) as the BD is missing all the extras, no interviews, no extra footage, it includes only the plain whole concert (and God knows if it is true) and period.
The quality honestly is quite similar in resolution to the DVD which is very good BTW (of course considering the limitations of the media and technology diferences…) a real shame the Rush management made such mistake and let this mistake slips and cheat all their fans like that…
Resuming if you can, still get the DVD collector package instead of the BD version, or both to complement each other…
5 Stars Blu-Ray of R30 and Region coding
For those outside the USA it is worth knowing this is region free and plays happily on my UK Blu-ray player.
I won’t go on about how good this is because it’s been said before, the Blu-ray is worth buying for the full concert and the vastly improved picture and audio quality. I don’t see how anyone can say the picture quality is no better than DVD, it is up there with Snakes and Arrows in quality and the HD soundtrack sounds fantastic. Shame about the extras from the DVD being missing, so if you haven’t already got the DVD buy it too!
5 Stars the sound is awesome!
I bought the DVD version of this concert the day it was released. I was majorly disappointed when the DTS audio printed on the box was nowhere to be found on the DVD. The studio had to issue a correction stating that the DTS audio was not included because of the lack of space available to the DVD medium without affecting the video quality.
This blu-ray release fixes this omission by including a DTS master audio track! WOO HOO! That was an unexpected surprise as the same DTS audio is found on the box… Not only do I see the band in high definition, I now can hear them in high definition too!
My son can watch the drum solo (and the rest of the concert, of course) and hear the band in their full audio glory!
