Ninja [Blu-ray]

It remains as true today as it did in the days of the ancient Samurai: the weapons of the Ninja hold legendary powers for both good men and evil. The deadly weapons of the last Koga Ninja have now been entrusted to an American Ninjutsu student studying in Japan. Commanded by his Sensei to return to New York and protect the weapons at all cost, he must defeat the skilled Yakuza assassins hunting him and prevent the power of the weapons from falling into evil hands.

4 Stars Scott Adkins=Ninja
This is NOT a review. I gave it four stars as thats my anticipation to see it. What it is, is an attempt to get more people aware of the film before it hits.
So I have to wait til March for this to hit DVD. By then the effects heavy and bigger budget “Ninja Assassin” by the Wachowskis will probably be hitting DVD too, if not before. Either way this movie will get lost in the shuffle and that’s a shame. From the clips I’ve seen and from Scott Adkins’ previous works (”Undisputed 2,” Part three out soon, and his stunt work in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” as Weapon XI)he’s a very capable martial artist. The fight scenes that I have seen are the opposite of what Hollywood does with fights now. Instead of close ups, quick cuts, and shadowy fast moving action so we can’t see stunt doubles faces, we get long takes that truly showcase Adkins’ talent. Been reading up on him and Michael Jai White and both are underated, but at least they’ve both gotten starring roles to showcase their amazing martial arts talent in recently, with “Blood and Bone” coming out for White (God I hope there’s a sequel)and “Ninja” coming out for Adkins…*Sigh* just wish I didn’t have to wait. Review will be up as soon as I get it.
1 Stars AWFUL and Just plain STUPID!!!
I have been a martial arts movie fan for a long time and watched my share of good and bad movies. I rented this movie last night at blockbuster. What a waste of time and money! Didn’t even watch the whole thing because it was that ridiculous. The first 45 minutes were enough, 45 minutes of my life I won’t get back. Horrible acting, tired plot, martial art scenes were just plain stupid. Low budget b-movie effects. When a person gets shot from the front the bullet doesn’t cause the clothing to blow out in the opposite direction of the impact. When the outcast ninja returns to the school you have one ninja defeat a whole school of ninjas in 10 seconds and the master in less than 5, COME ON! The hero and heroin rent a hotel room and both jump in the shower with their clothes on to get clean, how stupid is that. They could have filmed that scene in a different way or not at all. And the choreography made it look like each move was stop motion. Ridiculous thing like this happen throughout the whole movie. Don’t waste your time or money.
4 Stars A lot of Fun
I just saw this movie and totally recomend it to all you ninja and martial arts fans!!! Some great camara work, awesome choreography, very nice action scenes, a good rivalry and the story isn’t half bad. For those of you who might want more story detail, don’t expect any twists its a simple story of 2 men at odds, one of them has something the other wants and wont stop at nothing to attain. Sure it has its problems, mainly the cult that the bad ninja works for and police ethics… The acting isn’t going to win any Academy Awards but the actors all do good work with the material they had, I’m interested in seeing what they do next.
Bottom line: Movie kicks major ass and does it well, action fans rejoice.
4 Stars Such a cool movie.
I didn’t know what to expect when I started to watch this movie. I mean, a movie called ninja. I was hoping it was not all in subtitles. I was lucky and it was not. There were some parts with sub titles. But don’t worry. They did not speed by so fast that someone couldn’t read them. The movie is about a man who is in a school for martial arts. After his dad died and his mom left him at this school when he was a child, he stayed in the school. Time comes to choose a new head in the school. Another man attending the school is jealous. During a spar he gets a real sword and tries to kill the man. He is banned from ever coming back to the school. Then, he comes back. There is a sword and a special box. The box has items in it that are rare and mean a lot to the people who went to the school. The man who tried to kill the other student wants the box. The young man who was almost killed is sent to protect the box. That’s the story. It is cheesy and the acting is just ok. But, the reason that I will be buying this when it is available is the fighting. WOW! This was some of the best and coolest fighting I have ever seen in a movie. I mean scenes that have a man cut someone with a sword and blood just squirts all over the place. Don’t worry though, it is not super bloody and meant to make you sick. It almost seems real when you are watching. For an actor I have never heard of, the man sure can fight. I will be happy to add this movie to my collection and even happier to see the main actor in more movies. For any fans of martial arts movies, this is a must see!
