Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride [Blu-ray]

Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride [Blu-ray]

Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 09/26/2006 Run time: 122 minutes Rating: RWho else but Tim Burton could make Corpse Bride, a necrophiliac’s delight that’s fun for the whole family? Returning to the richly imaginative realm of stop-motion animation (after previous successes with The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach), Burton, with codirector Mike Johnson, invites us to visit the dour, ashen, and drearily Victorian mansions of the living, where young Victor Van Dort (voiced by Johnny Depp) is bequeathed to wed the lovely Victoria (Emily Watson). But the wedding rehearsal goes sour and, in the kind of Goth-eerie forest that only exists in Burton-land, Victor suddenly finds himself accidentally married to the Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter), a blue-tinted, half-skeletal beauty (how pleasantly full-bosomed she remains!) with a loquacious maggot installed behind one prone-to-popping eyeball. This being a Burton creation, the underworld of the dead is a lively and colorful place indeed, and Danny Elfman’s songs and score make it even livelier, presenting Victor with quite a dilemma: Should he return above-ground to Victoria, or remain devoted to his corpse bride? At a brisk 76 minutes, Burton’s graveyard whimsy (loosely based on a 19th century Russian folktale) never wears out its welcome, and the voice casting (which includes Tracey Ullman and Albert Finney) is superbly matched the film’s gloriously amusing character design, guaranteed to yield a wealth of gruesome toys and action figures for many Halloweens to come. –Jeff Shannon

4 Stars Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride [Blue Ray]
A well done animated by Tim Burton. It’s worth watching to see how good it is. It draws you in and somehow you’re not watching an animated movie with corpses. It fun and entertaining and also has some romance!

4 Stars Great movie, though a bit too short
This is a brilliant film but Burton/Elfman/Depp. The animation is astounding, the music is catchy and riveting, and the overall atmosphere is creepy and beautiful. The only problem I had with this was that it was a bit too short: just less than 80 minutes. It could’ve been a bit better if there were 15 more minutes of film. But anyway, “Corpse Bride” is another dazzling accomplishment by Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and Danny Elfman. A definite must-see. A-

5 Stars 1080p HD DVD great
exellent animation, one of the best jobs i ever see, master piece.

by tim burton.

5 Stars 5 stars for the animation
The plot isn’t very compelling, there are some funny lines, but visually this movie is a masterpiece, 5 stars.

5 Stars Goth Fairy Tale
CORPSE BRIDE has a lot to recommend it. The animation is unique and well done as Tim Burton does a superb job of creating the bleak upstairs world of the living and the colorful much more jolly downstairs of the well - not living. The storyline actually has some important universal themes which is not surprising when you consider that this is based on an old folk tale. The movie is often darkly funny and the Danny Elfman music is perfect as always. While this is probably not appropriate for most kids under ten or so it is great choice for the tween age crowd. I think I might like Burton’s other dark tinged animated film THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS a bit better but this is also a very worthy effort.
